Bob Barker retiring after 50 years on TV

My first word is retiring! Yes, you read that right, Bob Barker was my first word. Ask my mom. You know what I think of this?!:

Ok, mostly this post was an excuse to use that noise again. Mostly.

John's favorite picture from the weekend

I guess this picture thinks it deserves a special post, because it refuses to load with the other ones.

A pirate and a professor went to a party...

I didn't think we were going out for Halloween this year (I feel kind of old to be hitting the town in a costume), but John decided at the last moment that we would, so, I had to be a pirate again, and John was Einstein/some kind of disheveled professor, with a sweet moustache.

We went to the same party we went to last year: the infamous "orgy" party (John is quite certain that right after we left last year, everyone there got naked). This party is in an artist's space/loft type thing, in Northeast Minneapolis. John's friend, Luis, is our hookup, as his sister knows the people that throw the party. The costumes last year were excellent, and the crowd is eclectic --lots of liberal art types; which was bad last year, because John wore a Dubya mask and some art jerks punched him in the face. What tolerant, accepting people, right? Also, last year, as the night lengthened, things started to get a bit, uh, free, so we decided it was time to go.

This year there was a really good Calypso/Caribbean band, an aerial scarf act, and much later a DJ. We shared a cab home with some silly girls, one of whom told John "I'll date you" and that he looked like James Blunt (HA! Big mistake, girl, as John does not like him, so no, you won't date him talking like that. Not to mention there's me. But I was in the back seat and couldn't hear what she was saying). Here are some pictures-- sadly, they are very dark, but John's came out good:

I have another picture to post, but for some reason it's not loading. Check back later...

I did not run off with this man:

John had a dream last night that I ran off with Joe Namath. And, he says that it wasn't even young Joe Namath, it was present day Joe Namath. He also asserts that I said I liked how Namath cuddled. Disturbing, yet, hilarious.

What kind of optimist are you?

Optimist
op·ti·mism
Pronunciation: 'äp-t&-"mi-z&m
Function: noun
Etymology: French optimisme, from Latin optimum, noun, best, from neuter of optimus best

1: an inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events
2: to anticipate the best possible outcome

I am the first option. I think number 2 can lead to a lot of unfulfilled expectations, which in turn lead to disappointment and then unhappiness. But, if you don't expect the best, and try to take something good out of what does happen, well, what's bad about that?

Breakin' hearts all over the place

I broke my third heart last week-- I had to tell yet another woman that yes, Christian Bale is married. She was devasted. She said "I'd leave my husband for a chance with him!" Alas, he has expressed no such sentiment, and for the time being, is indeed married. To all the ladies reading this who didn't know-- your heart will heal.

the Hornball, er, Bachelor

Ok, I know this is a day later than usual, but as Kerri probably hasn't watched the episode on abc.com yet I don't feel too bad.

Since I have conflicting feelings about television-- I feel it's a colossal waste of time and I am 100% positive my time could be spent bettering myself in countless ways versus numbing my mind with vapid melodrama, yet, I enjoy the melodrama-- I have decided that I will only watch the few primetime shows that I regularly tune in to if I am watching them at the gym. This way, I can watch the show without feeling guilty, because I have simultaneously watched the vapid program and improved myself. So far, it's working out splendidly.

This past episode of the Bachelor we said goodbye to the Socialite (yessssss!), LOTMA girl who makes crazy faces, and Jamie, who was nice but oh, well. Lisa is really grating on my nerves, but I still think she has a shot to go all the way. She got the first kiss, and Lo seems completely enamored of her stupid Girl Next Door schtick. However, towards the end of the show there was a 20 minute throat exploration between Lo and Agnese, it was so gross. Lo is a hornball, as we see in the previews for the coming weeks, he engages in many more of these throat probes with a wide array of girls. I will have to avert my eyes quite a bit, as I find kissing hard to watch.

Things that make me laugh, Part Two

Faith

from the American Heritage Dictionary
1.Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea,or thing.
2.Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.

I don't have all the answers, or know all the reasons; and I don't need to. Thank you, faith.

Squint with Clint

I forgot to put on mascara today! Here's how I look without mascara:

Maple Latte, or the Devil?

Don't let the white packaging fool you-- this latte is no angel. No, it is the devil, my friends. It's autumn themed flavor tempted me last night at 9:30, and I ordered a grande. Idiot. I was up ALL NIGHT. I fell asleep sometime around 530am, only to have the cat wake me up at least five times between 530am and 7am. I think I got an hour or two of solid sleep from 7am to 9am. And then I had to go to work. I have been dreaming of my bed all day long... Curse you Starbucks, with your delicious autumn flavors and pumpkin shaped cookies (I dipped the cookie in the maple latte-- so very tasty)!

No. Way.

It's only October, Minnesota.

And yet

The Bachelor Rundown

Alright, time for the Bachelor wrap up. Kerri and I discussed last night's show via email, and we are on the same page regarding the girls. Here's who's left, and what we think of them:

All Trashy, No Classy (reminds us of someone...)

Wonky Eye

You make me ill, Cheerleader

LOTMA(that's Lay Off The Makeup Already)Face Puller

Don't understanda the english

You're alright w/us, Texas Girl

Cute, Sweet, We Like

And we've already met the the other two in the previous Bachelor post. The "Socialite" (who looks like she's going to have a meltdown next week, sweeeeet)and Lisa, who has a stupid "5 year plan" that she should shut up about b/c that is desparate and unappealing, not to mention a receipe for divorce.

I miss Moana.

Lake Day

My mother sent me an email on Tuesday morning that said she missed me and wondered if I wanted to come with her on Saturday (which is, as I write this, today) to the lake to help clean out the lake house for the winter. Even though I know that my mom loves me, it's always nice to get an email from her that says she loves me, misses me and wants to spend time with me. :) There were gobs of golden, orange, red, and rust colored leaves to be seen on the drive up north to Lake Mille Lacs. When we arrived, dad was in his waders out in the lake, helping Bob take boat lifts out of the lake for winter. The weather today was amazing, it was in the 70's, with a warm breeze. Addison and I amused ourselves watching a spider travel across the ceiling (as long as it stayed on the other side of the room from me, I was okay with it). Later a chipmunk came up onto the deck and stuffed it's face w/the seeds in the little helicopter leaves that were everywhere. After dad was done with the boat lifts he wanted to take me to see the Land. The Land is the land he bought a few years ago to hunt on. It's a good size acreage with a few different woods, a cabin, some corn planted on it and some swampy areas. I'm the only one who hasn't been there yet, so I was excited to go see it. The roads to get there are all gravel, and there are No Trespassing and Private Property signs up. He showed me where the boundaries are, and explained what was his and how far it extended. We all went on a walk and saw some deer and coyote tracks. I had mom take a picture of me and Addison, it's a bit blurry but I still like it. I took some pictures at the lake, too, I'll put those up as well.

SBA Girls...

Alright SBA (that's Sponge Bob Alliance for those that don't know)
Our show has returned, and I've already picked out who I think might go far, if not all the way:
It's Lisa, she received the first rose/diamond earrings. She just has that stupid girl next door look that men looooooooooooooooooooove, so I'm going with her after this first episode. We'll see if I change my mind later in the season.

I also have a least favorite:

Erica, "socialite" from Texas (how are you a socialite in Texas?). When they arrived to tell her she made the show, she wasn't surprised or excited at all, and her mom was running around the house in a red cocktail dress and diamonds. Okaaaaaay. She seems spoiled, so she'll be fun to watch....
