Food items that are supposed to be smooth should never have any lumps or hard bits in them. Nev-er.
I may be alone in this idiosyncrasy, but if I am eating say, pudding, and I come across a bit that is not smooth, I gag, and almost puke. The offending bit doesn't necessarily have to be hard, either, it is just a matter of the item being the wrong texture-- the worst being the "skin" that can develop on pudding. That will make me gag every time. I have encountered this difficulty not only with pudding, but also with Jell-o (in an incident in college wherein I almost projectile vomited in a crowded lunch hall on campus). I like lumpy mashed potatoes-- no problem with those at all. I don't mind fruit in my yogurt or teddy grahams in my ice cream (thank you Sebastian Joe's!). Gravy with bits of turkey in it, fine. However, if the jellied cranberry sauce were to have some kind of lump or bump, that would be six kinds of wrong.
You shouldn't have to chew pudding
